More than 5,000 Alexandria locals are planning to start Thanksgiving Day this November 28 with a 5-mile race that runs through the heart of Del Ray. Sound fun? The Alexandria Turkey Trot is chip-timed with a Chronotrack system, and the flat route lends itself to speedy times, so if you’re a seasoned racer, this is a good opportunity to set a personal best time (and win one of the many cash prizes). If you’re not a racer, never fear. Race organizers welcome families with kids, strollers, and pets to walk or jog a shortened version of the race route. And, of course, everyone will enjoy the cheering and celebration at the finish line.
Best of all, funds raised at the race go to support ALIVE!, a nonprofit serving local families in need. Race organizers also request that all participants bring two non-perishable food items to donate. What better way to begin a national holiday dedicated to giving thanks?
