With the opening of Village Brauhaus, Old Town Alexandria now has its very own German-style bierhall. The new spot opened up right at the beginning of March, and is already making its impression on beer-loving locals.
Taking most of its influences from Bavaria (the southern German state that borders the Austrian Alps), the menu features a full selection of traditional German wursts, schnitzels, and sauerbraten. Some dishes that have earned early praise from Yelp reviewers include the schweinhaxen (a smoked ham hock with crispy skin) and the kassler rippchen pork chops with German potato salad. If you’re just popping in for a quick drink at the bar, the Bavarian-style pretzel and potato pancakes might be a good snack to go along with your hefeweissen, doppelbock, pilsner, or kolsch. And just like in Germany, you can order your draft beer by the pint or by the liter. Prost!
