Step inside the Torpedo Factory Art Center, and you might have a hard time believing it was once a working munitions plant. Today, the large warehouse has been sectioned off into 82 separate artists’ studio, all open to the public. There’s nothing like it anywhere else in the nation.
Stop by during the building’s open hours, and you’re welcome to explore any studio that’s open. You’ll find everything from paintings and photos to jewelry and stained glass pieces for sale in the artists’ studios. In addition to housing these masterpieces, the Torpedo Factory also plays host to the Alexandria Art Museum, The Art League Gallery and School, and the Bread & Water Company, an in-house cafe. It boasts seven galleries and holds regular events for the public. That means it’s easy to spend an entire day at the Torpedo Factory, whether you’re an avid art lover or into archaeology.
