Newly opened in Alexandria, The People’s Drug is a neighborhood eatery specializing in craft cocktails and casual bites, paying tribute to the People's Drug Stores, a popular chain of 20th-century drugstores founded in Alexandria in 1905.
The kitchen serves up bar snacks, protein-filled bowls, and sandwiches ranging from a pork-filled Cuban with truffle mayo to a vegetarian Charred Zucchini sandwich topped with mushrooms, grilled eggplant, and asparagus. The drink list includes signature cocktails as well as imported and local beers and ciders as well as six wines by the glass.
The space has a retro lunch-counter vibe with glossy white subway tiles, tin ceilings, and Edison bulb light fixtures. Seating is available at high top tables, window tables, and cushioned bar stools. Stop by for their weekday Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for discounted drinks and small bites. Visit The People’s Drug daily from 11 a.m. to midnight.
